How’s Business, Really?

Ted and Chris Anderson enjoying a meal at La Loma in Upper Arlington. Chris recently helped Ted sell his condo and did a stellar job.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

It’s a simple question we ask all of our clients, How’s business? The difference is that when we ask it, we aren’t sitting around at a restaurant starting casual conversation expecting an “it’s good”. We are really asking, ”How is your business doing?” What is the financial health, how are your leads, is it what you expected, what’s hurting you now? The difference is we genuinely care and expect a real conversation that helps drive results.

Recently I had dinner with a former client of mine who has become a friend. What surprised me was he said Kow Abundant and Ted really cared. Ted asked me who is my customer, how am I reaching them, and that made him think about how he approaches new connections. It made me feel proud as he sang our praises; completely unprovoked mind you. Even better it was in front of my most important person, my wife.

So when you are doing business, think of the Kow way and really listen when you ask a question, really mean what you ask!

I never expect sunshine and roses when I ask “How is business?” Sometimes clients actually say, “never been better, I’ve had more leads than ever, it was a good month” and sometimes clients say “do you actually ask this to all your clients?” Stunned at the level of care and detail we go to help our customers – just watch the customer reel.

Whatever the answer, I want to hear it because it makes us better. It makes us change strategy or be smarter about how we approach them as clients. We want you to grow and be successful.

So I invite all of you to pause and ask yourselves, How’s business? What do your people need right now to succeed?

PRO TIP

“Search is dead!” was first declared in 1997.

SEO has been declared dead first in 2005, then in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, and in 2015. Now again the headlines are popular again. Each time that was said, traffic for SEO increased. https://www.searchenginejournal.com/many-deaths-seo-2015/123311/

Top Client Questions

What are do follow and no follow links?

There is a simple difference between the two link types, do-follow links pass authority to your site, improving your search rankings. No-follow links don’t pass authority to your site, and instruct search engines to ignore them for ranking signals. However, it’s important to note that both drive referral traffic, and help to boost SEO. It’s also important to note that both do-follow and no-follow links are both called backlinks. Though do-follow links are more valuable than no-follow links for SEO.

What are toxic backlinks and why are they bad?

Toxic backlinks are links that direct to your site from another site, with the site linking to your site being spammy or being a low quality site. This can harm your site’s reputation and lead to penalties in ranking. This is why backlink monitoring is so important, as keeping a good handle on these backlinks allows you to stay on top and disavow any toxic backlinks before they begin to affect your SEO.

How can I get more backlinks? Are they important?

First, yes backlinks are important and help to boost your authority score, in return allowing you to rank better. Backlinks are one of the 5 major SEO metrics, and are highly important when trying to improve SEO. There are many different methods of getting backlinks, with the main method being backlink outreach. This includes reaching out to others via email to request backlinks. There are many different methods such as publishing high value content, shareable content, guest blogging, and more. Another method is to regain unlinked brand mentions on forums, social media, or others. You can do this by reaching out and asking to have a link added. It’s important to avoid spammy links and blackhat link building techniques, as toxic backlinks are far worse than low or no backlinks!

Do I need to block my IP address? How much does me using my site affect Google analytics and data?

This question typically depends on if your site is a high traffic or low traffic site. For low traffic sites it is recommended to remove your IP address to avoid skewing data such as page sessions, session duration and more. For high traffic sites the chances of majorly skewing data are much lower meaning removing your IP address from analytics typically will have little to no effect on your data. One reason you may not want to remove your IP address is if you do a lot of website work or troubleshooting, as removing your IP address will stop you from being able to troubleshoot and test user flows, as seeing your own interactions can help to troubleshoot. If you have a low traffic site, then it’s probably worth having your IP address removed. For high traffic sites, you are good to keep your IP address as it won’t affect your analytics or skew data heavily.
