The Secret PPC Strategy That We Do Now

“It’s the economy stupid”, famously said James Carville, well we are feeling that in Columbus with businesses today. We have seen changes in spending habits from our insights in Google Ads data as more conversions are coming from display ads vs search ads right now and let me tell you why…

We are in a period of “distracted attention” that we are paying for in the ad business now. Customers are pausing spending and all eyeballs are on the election and news cycle to see what happens. Luckily, there is a near-endless supply of display and news media to jump in on for businesses. This includes Youtube, YoutubeTV, pluto, and Roku, display ads, and more.

Our customers are seeing the best sales and conversions now in display and video ads. The secret strategy we employ now are display and video ads. For the moment, things are moving away from search to display and video ads but we expect that to quickly jump back after the election.

We still recommend customers to diversify and video reels and stories are getting tons of attention. We even ran our own Reel recently that got 5K views in a few hours organically; much more than traditional Youtube views. We offer Reels to our clients as well.

So doing video, social, and display ads is key during this time and even into the holiday season based on data we see from our customers. Customers are also spending less and if you can distract customers attention from the election and news you have a chance at capturing sales this cycle. Best of luck!

1. Google LSA ads are getting expensive, should I put more of my budget into Google Ads instead?
This is a business decision and it depends. If you are seeing more competition now you arent alone. Google LSA prices are increasing in large part because Google sent an email in July stating that they would “rely on AI” to handle disputes from now on. This means you can’t dispute charges and the all powerful AI will make decisions for you. A bad move we think but Google is moving this way. So costs are rising. Also competition for Google LSA relies on the top 2 so in many cases if you don’t have the budget you won’t show. For these reasons we see pullback and customers doing more Google ads or display or video ads.

2. What is the status on the Google trial? What will happen to Google?
The closing arguments for the second trial will occur November 25th before Thanksgiving. Each side will have 30 minutes to present and then the judge will have questions. Then sometime in January a verdict and possible punishment after is expected. We don’t know what will happen but the DOJ stated in the very beginning their goal was to breakup parts of the business. This could mean a sale of properties like the ad bidding system or other areas of the business.
We welcome this change and think that Google and other big tech should be broken up for more competition to happen. The arguments were it would be like if Goldman Sachs owned the NYSE, this is like Google owning the bidding system as well. More competition would be so much better for the industry and also allow for better products. We feel that Google now is cornered and making poor decisions especially with AI. A recent example was to have Google LSA disputes rely totally on AI to handle any charges or disputes. We even had a customer who called our client running ads saying, do you service electric gates and they did not but were still charged for that customer as AI found no fault in it. AI has a long way to go still.
